Restoration

An integral part of our activity is, since the 1960s, the restoration of tapestries, carpets and other textiles and the extension of their service life.

We deal with the preservation of large-scale tapestries, carpets, but also with restoration of smaller historical textiles, such as banners or various tapestry upholsteries and others.

Prior to the actual restoration we always assess the damage of the textile. Then, a method of restoration including its budget is proposed – as first we provide a variant of restoration that would be the best for the specific textile and prolongs its life as much as possible. Of course, we take into account the investor’s interest concerning to the scope and type of the conservators works. The restoration itself will start only after an agreement with the investor is closed.

We take a cautious approach to the preserved historical material with the aim to fully preserve it. We repair both minor and extensive damages and we are able to reweave the missing parts of damaged areas.

Methods / techniques of restoration and types of restored textiles:

  1. Restoring of historical tapestries by means of various sewing restoration or preserving methods, such as imperceptible textile    retouch and reconstruction, large-area skeleton fixed on linen base-cloth taking into account the principle of reversibility of the restoring intervention.
  2. Restoring of woven kilim carpets, hand-bound oriental carpets and other carpets (less or more damaged).
  3. Restoring of historical embroidery, both hangings, upholstery of antique furniture and furniture gobelins upholstery.
  4. Restoring of banners, curtains and other fabrics by various sewing techniques
